A Real Pain
'A Real Pain' is written, directed, and stars Jessie Eisenberg, and co-starring Kieran Culkin. They play cousins who embark on a heritage tour of Poland. Paid for with a inheritance from their Grandmother, who grew up there.
Kulkin is a chaotic force of nature, the opposite to Eisenberg. Equal parts infuriating and enamoring to the tour group they join.
Treading similar ground as 'Treasure' this felt lighter, less earnest, and yet managed to deliver (perhaps) a bigger of an impact.
The title captures the theme well. Benji (Culkin) is a real pain to be around, but in turn he himself is struggling with real pain. Layer on that the pain from the Jewish history they learn about.
Well worth seeking out.
