post-The Final Shape blues
I thoroughly enjoyed The Final Shape.
Exciting, emotional, and a true sense of a battle between good & evil.
A real satisfying culmination of the decade-long storyline for Destiny 2.
But...
It's been weeks since I actually played Destiny 2. Checking for new shaders, weapon skins, etc. from the vendors is the only thing I've done. Log in, log out.
But why? Well, a few things.
Prismatic
The new sub-class for your character sounded great–Use abilities from both the light and dark. Awesome. But as the game went on I found myself using it less & less. To the point where I didn't even create a specific build. I used one of my existing builds and swapped to Prismatic when the story/mission required I use it.
My existing builds were good enough-even if my skill wasn't-to clear any of the regular content. They were also a lot more fun to use.
Maybe if I had the Prismatic exotic item for my class...
Required team-ups
I'm a solo player. I do belong to a clan, and have jumped in with some of them to run certain seasonal content over the years, but 90% of the time I play alone.
I've never felt the need to LFG as Raids, Nightfalls, or Dungeons hold no appeal for me.
But to unlock the Prismatic exotic class item you have to play a mission that requires 2 players. And from what I've seen you need to be communicating all the time. Not for me.
I also got halfway through another exotic quest to find that I had to play 3 "Cooperative Focus mode" missions. Again, not for me. So that remains unfinished.
Episodes
Episodes are what have kinda replaced the campaign now. A story with 3 acts. The first one has held zero interest for me. I bounced right off the story.
I didn't connect with any of the missions and the loot was a tad underwhelming. That too remains unfinished.
What's next?
I hope the next Episode story connects more with me. I'll still pop in to clear some favourite patrol areas or missions, but it's time for a break.
I doubt I'll buy another pass.
The news out of of Bungie hasn't been great recently either. Layoffs, game cancellations, and general ickiness from some long-time names there.
I'm hopeful Bungie rights itself. And the next releases are good. And I can hop in with fresh eyes.
