The Watchers
Today I went to see The Watchers.
Dakota Fanning plays a woman, seemingly adrift in Ireland. Tasked with driving a bird from the pet shop where she works, to a zoo, she soon finds herself lost in an ancient forest that appears on no maps.
Here she finds 'The Coup', a bunker with one-way mirror for a wall, populated with 3 strangers. At night something/someone comes to watch them.
Though not scary, it is suitably spooky and has great visuals and atmosphere. And when the reveals come, they work very well and don't seem forced.
I could've seen this adapted by The X-Files or Sapphire & Steel in decades past, but losing some things that the film manages to retain.
Overall I liked it, and a solid first feature from Ishana Shyamalan.
Apparently the book this is based on has a sequel. Interesting to see if this did well enough to get that adapted too.
