My Gmail is sending spam…
(3)So, I woke this morning to find my Gmail account had been sending out spam to everyone in my contacts list while I slept!
First, apologies to anyone that got hit. Second, how do I combat this?
Changing my Google password (which I did this morning) is really like shutting the barn door after the horse has bolted. I don’t think its anything on my laptop as I run anti-virus software and regular Spybot scans. Also nothing was sent from Thunderbird which I use locally.
How did “it” get access to my Gmail account? How does it run when its there? Is it Google’s fault?
We’ll have to start dealing with this kind of stuff more and more as we move into the cloud. Can you trust the servers that your info is on? Do they run the latest anti-virus software, etc.?
Hopefully when I find out more about my current Gmail problem I’ll post here.

Yes, I have been hit with the same problem recently. First, I noticed that my display name in Google Talk has changed to “Windows Live”. Then I started seeing emails stating that Windows Live needed me to verify information blah blah. Appearing to be just a regular spams, I deleted those messages, but they did not stop coming. I went on to delete all those spams and empty trash. Problem seemed to be resolved, until this morning. I came into work and logged onto my Google Talk. I was first greeted with a display name of Rubby taru. Becoming more alarming, I went into my mailbox, just to find out that there are many undelivered messages in my inbox. The sender name in those mails were.. you guessed it… Rubby taru! However, the address is correct, but the name is totally off.
At this point, I went ahead into Gmail setting and change the name of the sender (which also changed my display name in Talk), changed the password in Google setting. Oh, I did all these processes on a Mac just to be sure those malwares on my PC, if any, are not catching it.
Sorry for the long rant, but if I came across a solution, I will be back and share the info.

Same thing is happening to me. Under recent activity, it shows an unusual IP address logged in at 6:25pm, and at 6:33pm “I” sent spam to all my contacts. This is the IP address: 67.198.201.226
I want to ban/report, but NOTHING on Google’s help pages say what to do. UGHH!!
